1. When sleep will not come

Lord, the house is quiet but my mind is not. Tomorrow feels larger than it is. Let the last hour of this day belong to You rather than to worry, and give this household the kind of sleep that does not have to be earned. You have kept us safely through every night before this one. Keep us through this one also. Amen.
2. For the parent who cannot stop turning it over
Father, I have carried this all evening — the friendships, the teachers, the things I cannot see or fix from here. I am setting it down now, not because the concern is foolish, but because You have invited me to. “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you” (1 Peter 5:7). Take the ones I have named and the ones I have not thought of yet. Amen.
3. Committing the year before it begins
Lord God, before the first bell rings, this year is Yours. The lessons, the friendships, the disappointments we cannot see coming. Order what we cannot order ourselves. Amen

4. At the door, before they leave

God, whatever this day holds, it is a day You made.

11. For the one who does not feel they belong
Lord, this is the season when belonging becomes the loudest question of all. Send this student one true friend — not a crowd, one friend. And where no friend appears yet, be nearer than the loneliness. Amen.

12. For standing firm

14. For wisdom in real decisions

18. Before the drive to campus
Lord, the car is loaded and the room at home is about to be empty. Go with this one into a life that is increasingly their own. Give them wise friends in the first week, before the unwise ones find them. Amen.
“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee” (Deuteronomy 31:6).
19. For the homesick freshman
God, everything here is unfamiliar and everyone else appears to be managing. Be a refuge in a dormitory room. Let this pass, and let something like home grow here in time. Amen.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).
20. For the parent standing in an empty room
Lord, I raised this child to leave, and now they have. Let me grieve it honestly and celebrate it truly. Whatever else this year brings them, bring them that. Amen.

21. For wisdom to guide
Father, I cannot do that in a single conversation. Give me patience for the long work of it — the repeated corrections, the same lesson taught twenty times. Amen.

Lord, You gave four young men in Babylon what no tutor could. “As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom” (Daniel 1:17). Quiet this student’s mind. Bring back what they studied. And keep them from believing that a score is a verdict on their worth. Amen.
30. When a child has no friends yet
Father, “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10). Send this child a friend. In the meantime, do not let the waiting convince them something is wrong with them. Amen.
31. When a child is being bullied
Lord, someone is hurting this child. “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee” (Psalm 56:3). Give them words when they need to speak, and adults who take it seriously when they do. Heal what has already been done, inside and out. And do the deeper work in the one causing the harm. Amen.
32. For a child who learns differently
Father, “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye” (Psalm 32:8). This child does not learn the way the classroom is built for. Give their teachers the willingness to adapt. Give this child patience with themselves. And let no one, including them, mistake difficulty for inability. Amen.

How to Use These Prayers Through the Year
Choose one and stay with it. A single prayer prayed every morning for a week does more than thirty prayed once. Pick the one that matches your household’s actual worry and repeat it.
Pray the verse when the words fail. On mornings when nothing comes, read the Scripture aloud and stop there. That is a complete prayer.
Put a verse where it will be seen. Psalm 121:8 inside a lunchbox lid. Joshua 1:9 on the inside of a locker door. Philippians 4:6-7 on the mirror for a student who dreads mornings.
