This plan gives you one KJV Bible verse and one small thankful action for every day of November, from Sunday, November 1 through Monday, November 30. It takes about two minutes a day.
November already points toward gratitude. Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26, and the first Sunday of Advent follows on November 29. 30 days of thankfulness challenge reading what scripture says about thanks is a way to make sure the holiday is about more than one meal.

How it works:
- Read the day’s verse aloud, slowly, once or twice.
- Do the thankful prompt beside it. Most take less than five minutes.
- Write one line in a notebook or on the printable calendar: what you thanked God for today.
- Missed a day? Read two the next day. The goal is a thankful month, not a perfect record.
The verses are grouped into four weekly themes so the month builds: God’s goodness, everyday gifts, the people in your life, and giving thanks when life is hard. All Scripture is quoted from the King James Version.

A prayer for each week
Pray these on the Sunday that starts each week, or any day you need them.
Week 1 prayer: for a grateful start
Lord, I want this month to be different. Before I list what I want, let me remember who you are. You are good, and your mercy endureth for ever. Your compassions have been new every morning, even the mornings I complained. Open my eyes this week to gifts I walk past every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Week 2 prayer: for ordinary gifts
Father, thank you for bread, for warm water, for a bed to sleep in and work to do. I treat these as normal, but each one came from your hand. Teach me to receive them with thanksgiving instead of expectation. Let the small mercies of this week make me a humbler person. Amen.
Week 3 prayer: for the people you gave me
Lord, thank you for the people who carried me this year: family, friends, a pastor, a neighbor who checked in. Some of them do not know how much they helped. Give me the courage this week to tell them. And where a relationship is strained, help me find one honest thing to be thankful for in that person. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Week 4 prayer: for thanks in every season
God of all comfort, it is easy to give thanks when the table is full. It is harder when there is an empty chair or an unpaid bill. Your Word says in every thing give thanks, not for every thing. So in this season, whatever it holds, I thank you that you have not left me. Carry me through Thanksgiving and into Advent, and let my last word this month be praise. Amen.
If this holiday season includes a loss, our prayers for grieving families may help.
Doing the challenge together
With your family. Read the day’s verse at dinner and let each person answer the prompt in one sentence. Keep a “thankful jar” on the table: everyone drops in a slip of paper each night, and you read them all on Thanksgiving Day (Day 26).
With young children. Read only the first half of longer verses, and turn the prompt into a question: “What food are you thankful for today?” Children’s ministry and Sunday school leaders can use one verse a week instead of one a day.
With a small group or Bible study. Each member does the daily prompts alone, then the group shares one answer from the week at its next meeting. Week 3 (people) works especially well in a group setting.
On your own. Print the calendar, put it on the fridge or bathroom mirror, and tick off each day. A visible calendar keeps the challenge going after the first week, when most people drop off.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best Bible verse about thankfulness?
1 Thessalonians 5:18 is the most quoted: “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” Psalm 100:4 and Psalm 107:1 are close behind.
What does the Bible say about giving thanks in hard times?
The KJV says “in every thing give thanks,” not “for every thing.” Scripture asks believers to thank God within hard circumstances, trusting his goodness, without pretending the hardship is good. Week 4 of this plan is built around that idea.
Can I start the challenge after November 1?
Yes. Start on whatever day you find it and work through all 30 verses, or join on today’s date and catch up on missed days as you can.
Is this challenge suitable for kids?
Yes. Most prompts are simple enough for children, and longer verses can be shortened when reading aloud.
Why the King James Version?
The KJV has been read in churches and homes for over 400 years, and its wording is easy to memorize. Many families still use it for Scripture memory.
A thankful month starts with one verse
You do not need a perfect streak for this challenge to change you. Read today’s verse, do one small act of thanks, and come back tomorrow. By November 30, you will have 30 written reasons to praise God, and a habit that can outlast the holiday.
